Gerry McDonald, RYT found her first Iyengar teacher, Joan White, in 1982 and knew immediately that this was the system she’d been looking for. She teaches 10 classes weekly and has been instrumental in creating an enthusiastic Iyengar community in the Capital district. Gerry’s greatest satisfaction in teaching comes in cultivating her student’s awareness of the inner actions within the stillness of each pose and observing the evolution of their experience of this wonderful art and science. She is grateful to yoga for the deep personal pleasure she derives from her practice and for the wonderful community it has placed her in

Marge McGreevy, LMT has been teaching Iyengar style yoga for since 1996. She also brings with her knowledge and experience gained from 20 years of practicing Shiatsu and Massage Therapy. She began teaching yoga when she realized how much it would benefit her clients. Her deep interest and knowledge of the energy system of our bodies gives her a unique awareness of the profound affect yoga has on the health of our bodies. She has a deep respect for the power of yoga to enhance our core strength and loves the Iyengar method because of its precise attention to the proper alignment of the body.

Joan Haggerty has been teaching in the Albany – Castleton area since 1979. She has worked with many different body types, ages and abilities. She has seen bodies become more strong, supple and flexible and most importantly of all “gain confidence in their everyday living experience”. Joan has a firm belief in the Iyengar tradition of creating a firm foundation in our feet, proper spinal alignment, and the power of yoga to affect every cell of our body.

Mary Sloan, RYT,CSW,LMT has been teaching yoga for 10 years.  She is certified in Kripalu and Phoenix Rising Yoga.

Claire Malone has been teaching Senior Yoga in the Capital District for the past 4 years.

John Smrtic, Certified Jivamukti Yoga Instructor (300 Hr.) John's classes are infused with smiles, fun, love, challenging asana, lively music, yogic scripture, devotion and Self-discovery

Jim Whiting, CYT Jim is recently certified in Kripalu Yoga. He has been studying yoga, and meditation since 1996 at Kripalu Center, Hindu Temple and the American Meditation Center.

Brooke Myers has been a practitioner and teacher at the NYC Institute since its inception in 1986.  During this time, yoga has become the center of her life and teaching the work of her life.  She has made frequent trips to India to study with the Iyengars and be a part of Indian culture.  Her classes at the Institute include a specific needs class and pranayama.  In addition she has taught in a variety of settings including drug rehab., psychiatric hospitals, and HIV/AIDS organizations.

Leslie Journet has been teaching Yoga since 1990, and a serious student of Iyengar Yoga since 1998. Her interest in yoga began when she was a modern dance performer  in the 1980's. She was attracted to Yoga as a way to increase control and flexibility, as well as  to heal and prevent injuries.  She has completed two years of Iyengar teacher training and in 2005 she spent five weeks in Pune, India studying with the Iyengar's. She continues to study Iyengar Yoga with Robin Janis.  She is also a student of Ayurvedic Nutrition.  She currently teaches yoga classes in Manhattan and has been the yoga teacher at Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater since 2000.

Eileen Muir, a student of yoga from an early age whose studies has led her to India, China, and Japan. A certified Yoga Alliance instructor as well as  certified Instructor of Shiatsu.  She has studied Iyengar yoga since 1983 and is a 20 year practitioner of Vipassana Meditation.  She teaches with a passion and understanding that comes form a commitment to yoga as spiritual path to relieve suffering. 

Shubalananda has been singing kirtan for many years.  He has worked with Wah, Krishna Das, Bhagavan Das and others.  He has a home base at Karuna Yoga in Northampton and travels to yoga centers throughout the Northeast to sing his devotional chants. 

Sally Rhoades, MA is a performer, poet and director.  Her movement practice has been formed from theater, dance, yoga, and Release Technique.

Karen Beetle, MA, LMHC has been exploring the interface between mediation and psychology since the early 1990's. An eight week Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Course in l995 was her impetus to begin and sustain a meditation practice. She has an MA in counseling psychology and maintains a private practice in Albany offering counseling, psychotherapy, and mindfulness.

Nancy Forster has been studying Svaroopa for the past 2 years, and brings a gentle and fresh approach to her class. She practices Healing Touch, and instructs Somato Respiratory Integration.
